Formed in 1999 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the American band The National has in its music elements ranging from country-rock to post-punk. That's why his influences are between Bruce Springsteen and Joy Division. In its formation are vocalist Matt Berninger and the pair of brothers Scott (bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums), and Aaron (guitar) and Bryce Dessner (guitar).
Established in New York, The National released their first album, The National, in 2001, and in 2003, Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, both on the Brassland Records label. In 2004, the band signed with Beggars Banquet Records and the following year, the third album, Alligator, was well received by specialized critics.
The National gained acclaim in 2007 when they released Boxer. The album brings beautiful songs like "Fake Empire" and "Apartment Story". Under expectations, the band released in 2010, through 4AD, the album High Violet, with the track "Bloodbuzz Ohio" as the first single.
In 2013, The National released Trouble Will Find Me, an album that features several guests, including Sufjan Stevens, Sharon Van Etten and St. Vincent. The group returned with a new studio album in 2017, when they released Sleep Well Beast.
I Am Easy to Find, the band's eighth album, was released in May 2019. To promote it, The National released a short film, which bears the same title as the album, directed by Mike Mills and starring Swedish actress Alicia Vikander . I Am Easy to Find features guest appearances by Sharon Van Etten, Lisa Hannigan, Gail Ann Dorsey, Mina Tindle and Kate Stables.
With guest appearances from Taylor Swift, Sufjan Stevens and Phoebe Bridgers, the band released First Two Pages of Frankenstein in April 2023. Tracks that were left out of this work were included in Laugh Track, a surprise album released in September of that same year.
