At the Drive-In was formed in 1994 in El Paso, Texas. The band was composed of Cedric Bixler (vocals), Omar Rodriguez (guitar) and Jim Ward (guitar), Paul Hinojos (bass) and Tony Hajjar (drums).
In addition to their aggressive sound, which was labeled as post-hardcore, and political lyrics, At the Drive-In had an explosive stage presence.
The group released a few EPs before their first album, Acrobatic Tenement, which arrived in 1996 on Flipside Records. At that time, the band was already starting to stand out in the American underground. The following year, on Fearless Records, their second album, In Casino Out, arrived, and finally in 2000 they released the sonic bomb Relationship of Command, of which the single "One Armed Scissor" became a milestone in the band's career. After this album, the band ended its activities.
In 2001, Cedric and Omar formed The Mars Volta, and Jim, Paul and Tony created Sparta. In 2003, Jeremy Ward died of an overdose. In 2005, the compilation This Station Is Non-Operational was released on CD and DVD, bringing together hits, rarities and covers (Smiths, Pink Floyd, among others).
At the Drive-In returned to activities in 2012, when they performed at the North American festivals Coachella and Lollapalooza. In 2016, there was a new comeback and the band released a new song, "Governed by Contagions" and announced a new album. Entitled in•ter a•li•a, this work arrived in May 2017, seventeen years after Relationship of Command.
