The atmospheric and enchanting pop of the band Slumber Party has not received much deserved prominence in the indie rock scene. But, the female quartet released some beautiful songs in the first decade of the 2000s, following lessons from the Velvet Underground.
Formed in 1998 in the American city of Detroit, Slumber Party's best-known lineup was Aliccia Berg (vocals, guitar, piano), Gretchen Gonzales (guitar, vocals, organ), Leah Rutherford (bass, guitar, vocals) and Julie Benjamin (drums, vocals). However, its formation underwent several changes, with changes of members.
On the Kill Rock Stars label, the band released their debut album, Slumber Party, in 2000.
Psychedelicate, a 2001 album, was praised by Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500, Luna), considered by him to be one of the best of that year. 3 (2003) and Musik (2006) followed, two more experimental works.
