Canadian garage rock duo Japandroids was formed in 2006 by Brian King (guitar, vocals) and David Prowse (drums, vocals) in Vancouver. Their first two major releases were the EPs All Lies (2007) and Lullaby Death Jams (2008), which in 2010 were compiled into the compilation No Singles by the American label Polyvinyl Records. Previously, in 2009, the duo released their debut album, entitled Post-Nothing, on the Canadian label Unfamiliar Records, which was well received by critics, making it onto the best-of-the-year lists of publications such as Pitchfork, SPIN, NME and Stereogum.
In May 2012, Japandroids released Celebration Rock, their second studio album. In early 2017, the band returned with a new work, Near to the Wild Heart of Life. In 2024, the duo released Fate & Alcohol, announced as the band's final album.
