Frankie Rose was a member of Vivian Girls, a New York indie rock band formed in 1997. After leaving that band, she worked in the groups Crystal Stilts and Dum Dum Girls.
After experiences with these bands, she decided to develop her own work. In 2009, she released a single titled 'Thee Only One', on Slumberland Records. Soon after, she teamed up with bassist Caroline Yes!, drummer Kate Ryan and guitarist Margot Bianca, forming Frankie Rose and the Outs. Frankie Rose and the Outs released their self-titled debut album in 2010. The band's guitar pop has Velvet Underground, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Spacemen 3 as some of its sonic references. She then began to release her work simply as Frankie Rose.
