An American band formed in the 1980s in San Francisco, California, Faith No More, with its fusion of heavy metal, funk, hip-hop and hard rock, achieved great international success, especially with the albums The Real Thing (1989) and Angel Dust (1992).
Its origins began in 1981. Initially, the band was called Faith No Man. In its early years, the group had Courtney Love as lead singer for a short time. However, it was with Charles Mosley (vocals), Mike Bordin (drums), Roddy Bottum (keyboards), Billy Gould (bass) and James B. Martin (guitar) that the band released its first two albums - We Care a Lot (1985) and Introduce Yourself (1987).
In 1988, Charles Mosley (better known as Chuck Mosley) was dismissed from the band. Mike Patton took his place. The successful albums The Real Thing and Angel Dust brought Faith No More's biggest hits - "Epic", "Falling to Pieces", "The Real Thing", "Midlife Crisis" and "A Small Victory".
After the Angel Dust tour in 1993, guitarist Jim Martin left the band due to internal conflicts. During the recording of the album King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime (1995), the group had guitarist Trey Spruance. In 1996, Jon Hudson joined the band as a permanent guitarist.
The group released their sixth album, Album of the Year, in 1997. The following year, after touring for that album, the band announced their breakup.
In 2009, the band returned for a tour with its final lineup. A new album, Sol Invictus, was released in 2015.
On November 9, 2017, former vocalist Chuck Mosley passed away at the age of 57.
