North American band formed in 2006 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, by brothers Matt Shultz (vocals, guitar) and Brad Shultz (guitar), Cage the Elephant mixes elements of classic rock, grunge, blues and punk in their music.
The group caught the attention of English label Relentless Records in 2007 during their performance at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. After signing with the label, the band moved to London. In 2008, the first album, self-titled, was released. The album, which was only released in the United States the following year, received positive reviews from critics.
Thank You, Happy Birthday, the second album, released in 2011, features influences from groups such as Pixies and Nirvana. In 2013, Cage the Elephant released the acclaimed Melophobia. Alison Mosshart of the band The Kills collaborated on the track "It's Just Forever". Tell Me I'm Pretty, the group's fourth album, produced by Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys), was released on December 18, 2015. This work won the award for Best Rock Album at the 2017 edition of the Grammy Awards.
The band released Social Cues, their fifth album, in 2019. The album features Beck on the track "Night Running". Five years ago, the group returned with Neon Pill.
