Simian Mobile Disco was formed in 2005 by producer duo James Ford and James Shaw. Previously, they were members of the experimental electronic music group Simian. The duo initially gained fame for their remixes of songs by Klaxons, The Go! Team, Air, and others.
The duo's first album, Attack Decay Sustain Release, was released in 2007 by Wichita Recordings. "Hustler," "I Believe," and "It's the Beat"—a track that features vocals from The Go! Team's lead singer Ninja—are some of the songs on the album.
The band's second album, Temporary Pleasure, was released in May 2009 and featured many guests, including Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Jamie Lidell, Beth Ditto (The Gossip), and Chris Keating (Yeasayer). The following year, Delicacies, their third studio album, was released.
In 2012, Simian Mobile Disco released Unpatterns. This was followed in 2014 by Whorl and in 2016 by Welcome To Sideways. A new album, Murmurations, was released in 2018.
