Santigold (Santi White) burst onto the pop music scene in 2008, when it was still called Santogold, and released its eponymous debut album. The name change came in early 2009 due to a lawsuit filed by actor Santo Rigatuso, who already used Santo Gold as his stage name.
Santogold, with its mix of dub, rock and ska, became one of the sensations of 2008, leading the American singer and producer to be remembered on several lists of the best of the year.
In April 2012, Santigold released Master of My Make-Believe, her second album. A new studio work, 99¢, arrived in February 2016. The singer returned in 2022 with Spirituals.
