The leader of the Irish-English band My Bloody Valentine, Kevin Shields was the main name in the evolution of alternative rock from the second half of the 1980s. His experiments with guitars and recording sessions gave rise to the elements that gave rise to the sound of shoegaze. His band's albums Isn't Anything (1988) and Loveless (1991) are some of the main recordings of this movement.
Kevin Patrick Shields was born on May 21, 1963 in New York City. His parents moved from Ireland to the United States in the 1950s, when they were still teenagers. At the age of ten, Shields moved to Dublin with his parents, who decided to return to Ireland.
In 1979, he received his first guitar. Influenced by punk, Shields began playing with friends. One of these friends was drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig. In 1983, the two formed My Bloody Valentine.
In addition to his career with My Bloody Valentine, he has collaborated with artists such as Mogwai, Primal Scream, Yo La Tengo, Dinosaur Jr, among others. In 2003, Shields contributed compositions to the soundtrack of Sofia Coppola's film Lost in Translation.
