Alternative rock band Elbow was formed in 1997 in England. Among its influences, the group has cited artists such as Genesis (in the phase with Peter Gabriel), Talk Talk and Radiohead. Guy Garvey (vocals, guitar), Richard Jupp (drums), Craig Potter (keyboards), Mark Potter (guitar) and Pete Turner (bass) released their debut album, Asleep in the Back, in 2001. The band's debut album It was well received by critics, being nominated for the Mercury Prize.

Subsequently, the band released Cast of Thousands (2003), Leaders of the Free World (2005), The Seldom Seen Kid  (2008) and Build a Rocket Boys! (2011). With The Seldom Seen Kid, the band won the Mercury Music Prize in 2008.

The Take Off and Landing of Everything, the group's sixth album, came out in 2014. In early 2017, Elbow released Little Fictions, an album that features the collaboration of The Hallé Orchestra, an English symphony orchestra from the city of Manchester. Their eighth album, Giants of All Size, was released by Polydor Records in 2019.

Flying Dream 1, a work originated during the COVID-19 pandemic, was released in 2021. In 2024, the band returned with Audio Vertigo.
