El Perro del Mar is a solo indie pop project by Swedish singer/songwriter Sarah Assbring. The name came from the nickname given to a dog she found on a Spanish beach. His first recordings, made between 2004 and 2005, were collected on the album Look! It's El Perro del Mar!, released in 2005 by the Swedish label Hybris Records. Still in 2004, the American label Secretly Canadian released a vinyl single in which El Perro del Mar contributes the song “Shake It Off” and his fellow countryman Jens Lekman with the track “I Don't Know If She's Worth 90 Kr. ..”
In 2006, the British label Memphis Industries released El Perro del Mar, which is a reworked version of the album Look! It's El Perro del Mar!. This release brought great visibility to the artist's melancholic pop.
From the Valley to the Stars, the singer's second album, arrived in 2008 on the Licking Fingers label, home of the group The Concretes.
Subsequently, El Perro del Mar released Love Is Not Pop (2009), Pale Fire (2012) and KoKoro (2016). According to the singer, KoKoro was influenced by Japanese, Chinese, Thai and Indian pop music, which she had been listening to in recent years. The artist's next album, Big Anonymous, was released in 2024 on the City Slang label.
