The Brazilian band Wry was formed in 1994 in the city of Sorocaba, São Paulo, under the influence of British rock practiced by names like My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain. The band was one of the attractions of the Festival Juntatribo II, held in Campinas that same year.

Always acting in the independent scene, Wry released their first album, Direct, in 1998. In 2001, the band released the album Heart-Experience and moved to London, where they started to live with the local scene, releasing some works for the label ClubAC30 Records. Flames in the Head (2005), National Indie Hits (2008) and She Science (2009) were other albums released by the band in 2000.

In 2009, the band returned to reside in Brazil. Wry announced a career break in 2010. The return, for a tour, happened in 2014. In 2020, the group released the album Noites Infinitas. In 2021, the group released the album Reviver, a work that features ten tracks composed during the band's career and which were reworked for this album. The following year came Aurora, the band's eighth album.
