Washed Out is the project of North American multi-instrumentalist Ernest Greene, with his musical style classified within the chillwave movement. With her soft pop, which mainly mixes dream pop and synth-pop, Greene began producing her music in her home studio. Starting in 2009, he released a series of singles and EPs, most notably the EP Life of Leisure, released in September 2009.
In April 2011, Washed Out signed a contract with Sub Pop. Within and Without, their first album, was released in July of the same year. In August 2013, the second album, titled Paracosm, was released. On the Stones Throw Records label, the musician released Mister Mellow in 2017. Back at Sup Pop, Greene released Purple Noon in 2020 and Notes from a Quiet Life in 2024.
