Formed in the New York neighborhood of Brooklyn by Matthew Friedberger (multi-instrumentalist) and his sister Eleanor (vocals, guitar), The Fiery Furnaces released in 2003 on the English label Rough Trade their debut album, the acclaimed Gallowsbird's Bark.
The duo, who have their origins in the city of Chicago, show in their music influences of indie rock, blues and folk.
After releasing several albums, The Fiery Furnaces went on a long hiatus in 2011 after a performance at the Spanish festival Primavera Sound. Following, Eleanor Friedberger started a solo career. Her first album, Last Summer, was released in 2011.
