Stellastarr* is a New York-based band that emerged in the early 2000s and is heavily influenced by new wave. Shawn Christensen (vocals, guitar), Amanda Tannen (bass, vocals) and Arthur Kremer (drums) met in the 1990s at an art school in Brooklyn. The three bandmates first experimented with pop music with the short-lived band Ghistor. However, in 2000, the trio and guitarist Michael Jurin formed the band.
In 2002, the band released the EP Somewhere Across Forever on Tiswas Records and produced by Tim O'Heir, who has worked with Radio 4, Folk Implosion, Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh.
The group's self-titled debut album was released in September 2003 on RCA Records. Stellastarr*'s music contains traces of post-punk and new wave (Joy Division, The Cure, Talking Heads, etc.) and the electrifying sound of the Pixies.
In 2005, Harmonies For The Haunted, their second album, was released. This was followed by Civilized in 2009. After this album, the group went on a long hiatus.
