Red Hot Chili Peppers were formed in Los Angeles in 1983. Funk metal was one of the first labels associated with the band, but their music has always combined elements of alternative rock, funk, heavy metal, punk rock and psychedelic rock. The group's first album, self-titled, was released in 1984. From then on, the band created its own style, allied with a lot of irreverence. The band went through the 1990s as one of the great bands of contemporary rock. This is all due to the successful Blood Sugar Sex Magik album from 1991, which featured the hits "Give it Away" and "Under The Bridge".

In its long history, the band has had an in and out of members. Some playing only on tours, others making history with the band. Hillel Slovak, who joined the group in 1983, left in 1984 due to drug problems and returned in 1985, recording the albums Freaky Styley (1985) and The Uplift Mofo Paty Plan (1987). Hillel Slovak died of an overdose in 1988. Then came John Frusciante. He played on the albums Mother's Milk (1989) and Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991) and left in 1992 and returned in 1999, already participating in the album Californication.

Another who was part of the band was ex-Jane's Addiction, Dave Navarro. The guitarist joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1993, played on the album One Hot Minute (1995) and recorded with the band the song "Love Rollercoaster" for the soundtrack of the movie "Beavis and Butt-Head Detonate America" (1997). In 1999, Dave Navarro left the band.

Flea (bass), John Frusciante (guitar), Anthony Kiedis (vocals) and Chad Smith (drums) released their eighth studio album in 2002, titled By the Way. On the album tour, the band passed through Brazil. It wasn't the first time the Red Hot Chili Peppers had been to the country. The band played in Brazil in 1993 (Hollywood Rock), 1999 (doing just one show) and 2001 (at the Rock in Rio Festival). In 2006, the group released the album Stadium Arcadium.

In December 2009, John Frusciante announced his amicable departure from the group. Guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, who had previously participated in concerts on the Stadium Arcadium tour, in addition to having played with John Frusciante himself, was added to the group.

Red Hot Chili Peppers returned with a new studio album in 2011, when they released I'm With You, the tenth of the band's career. After 25 years and six albums with Rick Rubin as producer, the band released in 2016 the album The Getaway, produced by Danger Mouse. Unlimited Love, twelfth studio album, arrived in 2022. This work marks the return of producer Rick Rubin and guitarist John Frusciante, who returned to the group in 2019. Also in 2022, in October, the band released Return of the Dream Canteen, an album with tracks recorded during the Unlimited Love sessions.
