M83

The French Anthony Gonzalez and Nicolas Fromageau formed the M83 in 2001 in the city of Antibes, in France itself. In the same year, the self-titled debut album was released. However, the band's electronic indie, with shoegaze and ambient pop influences, began to receive critical attention with Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts, the second album, released in 2003. After touring this well-received album, Nicolas Fromageau left the band.

Anthony Gonzalez continued with the project and in 2005 released Before the Dawn Heals Us, an album that featured the singles "A Guitar and a Heart", "Don't Save Us from the Flames" and "Teen Angst". In 2007, the band released Digital Shades, Vol. 1, an album of ambient music, mostly instrumental, inspired by Brian Eno and Krautrock.

Saturdays=Youth, the band's fifth studio album, came out in 2008. According to Gonzalez himself, this work was inspired by the music of the 1980s, considered by him as the most brilliant period in the history of music. Saturdays=Youth had Ken Thomas (he worked with Sigur Rós, The Sugarcubes, Cocteau Twins, among others), Ewan Pearson and Anthony Gonzalez himself as producers.

M83 returned with new work in 2011, when they released Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, a double album. Its successor, Junk, arrived in 2016. In 2019, DSVII, a sequel to Digital Shades Vol. 1, work released in 2007.

Anthony Gonzalez returned in 2023 with Fantasy, his band's ninth studio album.
