The band from the city of Leeds, England, took its name from the South African team Kaizer Chiefs Football Club. Under the influence of new wave and post-punk, Kaiser Chiefs was formed in 2003, but its nucleus had already existed since 1997, but under the name Parva.
With Ricky Wilson (vocals), Andrew "Whitey" White (guitar), Simon Rix (bass), Nick "Peanut" Baines (keyboards) and Nick Hodgson (drums), the band released Employment, their first album, in 2005. This was followed by Yours Truly, Angry Mob (2007) and Off with Their Heads (2008). The band's cheerful and melodic music gained a legion of fans in the independent scene.
In 2011, Kaiser Chiefs released The Future Is Medieval, their fourth album, which came out the following year in the USA under the title Start The Revolution Without Me, with a different tracklist.
In 2012, drummer Nick Hodgson left the group, later being replaced by Vijay Mistry. Kaiser Chiefs released their fifth studio album, Education, Education, Education & War, in 2014.
The band performed in Brazil in 2008, at the Planeta Terra festival, and in 2013, at the Lollpalooza festival, both in São Paulo. In 2015, she returned to the country as the opening act for Foo Fighters, at shows held in Porto Alegre, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte. In 2016, Kaiser Chiefs was the main attraction at the Cultura Inglesa Festival, in the city of São Paulo.
Still in 2016, the group released Stay Togethe, their sixth studio album. The band's next album, Duck, came out in 2019. Kaiser Chiefs' Easy Eighth Album arrived in 2024.
