The English duo The Ting Tings was formed in 2007 in the city of Salford, near Manchester, by Jules de Martino and Katie White. The two had been working together since 2001, when Katie White was a member of an all-female punk-pop group called TKO and Jules de Martino wrote songs for the group.

The Ting Tings' electronic dance indie, in the new wave/post-punk vein, was introduced by the song "That's Not My Name", released as the band's first single in 2007 by the label Switchflicker Records. The duo soon signed with Columbia Records, where they released their debut album, We Started Nothing, in 2008. In addition to the aforementioned "That's Not My Name", "Great DJ", "Fruit Machine", "Shut Up and Let Me Go", "Be the One" and "We Walk" were the tracks from this album that were released as singles.

The band performed in Brazil in November 2009, at the Planeta Terra Festival. In early 2010, The Ting Tings went to Berlin to work on new songs for a new album. In August of the same year, the band released the single "Hands", which appeared on the soundtrack of the game Fifa 12 (EA Sports). This song was also released as a bonus track on the "deluxe edition" of the duo's second album, Sounds from Nowheresville, which arrived in March 2012.

In 2014, the band released the album Super Critical. After a hiatus, the duo returned in 2018 with The Black Light. The Ting Tings released Home in 2025. On this album, the band abandoned dance songs for soft rock, finding similarities in the works of Fleetwood Mac.
