Pavement has officially released an unfinished 1992 video for “Summer Babe (Winter Version),” the track that opens their debut album, Slanted And Enchanted, an iconic work of 1990s indie rock.
The story goes that young Tanya Small, a bandmate at the time, began filming the video in 16mm and Super 8, in Brooklyn, with just three members of the quintet, because guitarist Scott Kannberg (also known as Spiral Stairs) and drummer Gary Young were in Stockton, California. Due to the absence of these two, the music video project was shelved. Over time, this footage was lost, except for an edit on VHS tape, which led to the lo-fi video now shared, in which Stephen Malkmus, Bob Nastanovich and Mark Ibold appear, as well as a "supposed girlfriend" of Malkmus.
It is said that Tanya Small and Malkmus' “supposed girlfriend” were part of the initial lineup of Silver Jews, a band that had links to Pavement.
