American band from the city of Chicago emerged within the post-punk revival of the 2000s, The Ponys was formed in 2001 by Jered Gummere (vocals, guitar) and his girlfriend Melissa Elias (bass). The two began writing the band's main songs and with drummer Nathan Jerde performing at local clubs.
In 2002, the band gained a new member, guitarist Ian Adams. The quartet's first album, Laced With Romance, was released in 2004 on In the Red Records. The following year came Celebration Castle, an album produced by Steve Albini. After this release, Ian Adams left the band and was replaced by Brian Case.
The Ponys released their third album in 2007. Turn the Lights Out is out on Matador Records.
