The Organ was formed in 2001 in the Canadian city of Vancouver by Katie Sketch (vocals), Debora Cohen (guitar), Jenny Smyth (organ), Shelby Stocks (drums) and Sarah Efron (bass). After the release of the Sinking Hearts EP (2002), Sarah Efron left the band and was replaced by Ashley Webber.

In 2004, the band released their first album, Grab That Gun. This work was well received within the independent scene, more precisely in the Post-Punk Revival movement. The Organ began a tour of Canada, the US and Europe. During the European tour, internal conflicts took place that wore down the band's environment. In 2006, the separation was announced. The band got back together to finish songs that would be for the second album. However, only the posthumous EP Thieves was released in 2008.
