The Clash was a unique band within the so-called British punk rock movement of the second half of the 1970s. The group always sought to add other styles to their music. Reggae, ska, dub, funk, rockabilly and even rap were incorporated into their musical work.
Formed in 1976, The Clash had Joe Strummer (vocals, guitar), Mick Jones (vocals, guitar), Paul Simonon (bass, vocals) and Topper Headon (drums) in its best-known line-up. Of the six albums released between 1977 and 1985, the highlight is London Calling (1979), an album that often appears on lists of the best in rock history.
In addition to their explosive music and historic shows, The Clash also stood out in the punk movement for their political stance, supporting movements such as the IRA and Sandinismo in Nicaragua. The band ended in 1985 due to internal conflicts, changes in members and the failure of the album Cut The Crap.
Joe Strummer died suddenly on December 22, 2002, after suffering a heart attack.
