Pom Pom Squad was born in 2015 as a solo project by young American Mia Berrin. With the entry of Mari Alé Figeman (bass), Shelby Keller (drums) and Alex Mercuri (guitar), the project evolves into a band with strong grunge and music influences from the Riot grrrl movement.
To express her feelings through music, Mia Berrin found Courtney Love (Hole) and Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill) as references. She also has Sade and Billie Holiday as some of her influences.
Pom Pom Squad released their first album, Death of a Cheerleader, in 2021 on the City Slang label. This work featured the singles "Red with Love", "Lux", "Head Cheerleader" and a cover of "Crimson + Clover", song by the group Tommy James and the Shondells. In 2024, Mirror Starts Moving Without Me arrived.
