Despite becoming an icon of American rock, Neil Young was born in Canada, more precisely in the city of Toronto, Ontario, on November 12, 1945.
In his country, the singer and songwriter began his career in music, playing folk/rock, a style adopted by his first group in the USA, Buffalo Springfield. Formed in 1966, Buffalo Springfield lasted only two years and only their work (three albums) was valued later.
Neil Young was also part of another notable group, Crosby, Stills & Nash, which was renamed Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young when he joined. The band's music focused on folk, country and rock.
Neil Young's first solo album, Neil Young, was released in 1969. His extensive discography includes the albums Harvest (1972), Rust Never Sleeps (1979) and Freedom (1989), which brought the singer back into the spotlight after a long period of obscurity in the 1980s.
Neil Young's music is influenced by country rock, folk rock and hard rock. Crazy Horse has been his backing band for most of his career.
