Lewis Allan Reed, known as Lou Reed, was an American singer, musician and songwriter born March 2, 1942 in New York City. In 1964, he co-founded the Velvet Underground, one of the most influential bands in alternative and underground rock. In 1970, Reed left the band, paving the way for a solo career. From 1972 to 2007, the musician released twenty solo albums. Transformer (1972), the second, is his most acclaimed album and features the classic songs “Satellite of Love”, “Vicious”, “Walk on the Wild Side” and “Perfect Day”.

His predominantly experimental work was associated with proto-punk, glam rock, art rock, noise rock, among others. Lou Reed passed away on October 27, 2013 at the age of 71 from liver disease.
