English singer-songwriter Laura Marling emerged on the British indie scene at the age of 17, when she began posting her first songs on her MySpace page in 2007. She was also part of the original line-up of the group Noah and the Whale, but left before the release of the band's first album, Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down (2008).
Associated with the indie folk style, she released her first album, Alas, I Cannot Swim, in 2008. The artist's debut album was produced by Charlie Fink (frontman of Noah and the Whale) and was nominated for the 2008 Mercury Music Prize. The singer has been frequently compared to Joni Mitchell, as well as contemporaries such as Lily Allen and Regina Spektor.
In 2010, Marling released her second album, I Speak Because I Can, which was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. The following year, she released A Creature I Don't Know.
The singer moved to Los Angeles in 2012, where she began work on her fourth album, Once I Was an Eagle, which came out in May 2013. A follow-up album, Short Movie, was released in 2015. Its follow-up, Semper Femina, arrived in 2017.
In 2020, the artist released Song for Our Daughter, followed by 2024's Patterns In Repeat.
