American singer, songwriter, dancer and actress Janelle Monáe was critically acclaimed when her first album, The ArchAndroid (2010), was released, a conceptual work that addresses elements of Afro-futurism and science fiction. Earlier, in 2007, she released an EP titled Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase). Her music flirts with elements of countless styles, such as hip hop, soul, funk, hip-hop and R&B.
In January 2011, she performed in Brazil, opening for Amy Winehouse. She returned to the country in September of the same year to perform at Rock in Rio IV.
The singer released her second album, The Electric Lady, in September 2013. A new studio album, Dirty Computer, was released in 2018. In 2023, Janelle Monáe returned with the praised The Age of Pleasure.
