Cansei de Ser Sexy (CSS) was formed in São Paulo in 2003. Initially, the group was composed of Lovefoxxx (vocals), Adriano Cintra (drums, guitar, bass, vocals), Clara Ribeiro (backing vocals), Luiza Sá (guitar, drums), Ana Rezende (guitar, harmonica), Maria Helena Zerba (keyboards), Iracema Trevisan (bass) and Carolina Parra (guitar, drums). However, Clara Ribeiro and Maria Helena Zerba left the band during the recording of the first album.

With influences from rock, pop and electronic music, the band released its first album in 2005, entitled Cansei de Ser Sexy. This album was released the following year in the USA and Europe by the record label Sub Pop. The release of their first album abroad brought great international visibility to CSS in the alternative scene. And, soon, the band began an extensive international tour, with performances in the United States, Canada and European countries.

In April 2008, Iracema Trevisan left the band. That same year, Cansei de Ser Sexy released their second album, Donkey, via Sub Pop.

La Liberacíon, their third album, was released in August 2011 by V2 Records. In 2011, Cintra announced his departure from the band. Planta, CSS's fourth album, was released in 2013 by SQE Records.
