Ladytron

One of the most critically acclaimed electropop bands of the early 2000s, Ladytron was formed in 1999 in Liverpool (England) by Englishmen Daniel Hunt (keyboards, drum machine), Reuben Wu (keyboards, drum machine), Scottish Helen Marnie ( vocals, keyboards) and the Bulgarian Mira Aroyo (vocals, keyboards). The name was taken from a song on Roxy Music. With a strong influence from new wave, more precisely from the synth-pop subgenre, the group was born within the electroclash movement. "He Took Her to a Movie" was the first single released by the group.

In 2000, the EP Commodore Rock came out and, in the following year, the acclaimed debut album, 604, released by Emperor Norton. 604's main hit was the track "Playgirl". Light & Magic (2002), the second album, brought the hits "Seventeen", "Evil" and "Blue Jeans".

Ladytron's third album, Witching Hour (2005), featured changes in the group's sound. The songs bring perceptible influences from shoegaze and dream pop, with a more rock touch. Highlight for the tracks "Sugar" and "Destroy Everything You Touch".

Velocifero, 2008's work, followed the same trend as the previous album, the band's electropop flirting with indie rock elements.

The more synth-pop oriented fifth studio album Gravity the Seducer came out in September 2011. After a long hiatus, Ladytron returned in 2019 with a self-titled album. The band released their seventh studio album, Time's Arrow, in January 2023.
