The English/New Zealand band The Veils combine elements of indie rock and folk in their music, which is characterized by dramatic intensity, cinematic landscapes and poetic lyrics. Leading the band is vocalist and songwriter Finn Andrews, who was born in England but spent his teenage years in Auckland, New Zealand.

In Auckland, Andrews played in several local bands and began writing his first songs, some of which would be included on his future band's first album. With a collection of demos in hand, he returned to London, where he officially formed The Veils in 2001.

Their first singles, "Death & Co" and "More Heat Than Light", were released in 2002 on the Blanco y Negro label. The band then signed with Rough Trade Records, where they released their first album, The Runaway Found, in 2004, co-produced by Bernard Butler, former guitarist for Suede.

The Runaway Found garnered critical acclaim, as did their follow-up, Nux Vomica (2006), which introduced a darker sound. Still on Rough Trade, the band released Sun Gangs in 2009.

In 2013, The Veils released Time Stays, We Go on Pitch Beast Records. Its follow-up, Total Depravity, was released in 2016 on Nettwerk Records. In 2017, the band appeared performing the track "Axolotl" in the 15th episode of the David Lynch-directed series Twin Peaks: The Return.

A new studio album was released in 2023, titled ....And Out of the Void Came Love. In 2025, The Veils released Asphodels, a work recorded live at Roundhead Studios in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The title refers to an ancient Greek flower believed to grow in the underworld, where the souls of the dead resided.
